Presby Psych welcomes and provides mental health services for individuals, couples, and families of all ages, races, ethnicities, faiths or no faith, genders, and sexual orientations. We are interested in what life experiences have brought you to therapy, not what is "wrong" with you. We believe psychotherapy and counseling unfold within a safe therapeutic relationship developed by both client and clinician.

Our clinical staff is dedicated to rigorous continuing education and ongoing development of their clinical skills. As a non-profit mental health center, we also are committed to serving the mental health needs of the wider community. It is the generosity of others that allows Presby Psych to sustain, and whenever possible, expand our community outreach programs.

These include providing pro-bono and financially assisted mental health care for first responders and their families, healthcare workers, residents of the YWCA Central Carolinas Women in Transition Program, and individuals in need of low-fee psychotherapy.
Services
A diagnosis is a label that does not capture the history and essence of any individual, couple, or family.
No one is borderline, an addict, or a depressive.
Rather, these terms are labels applied to unique human beings who have developed conditions or coping mechanisms that are impediments to a full life.
We do not ask, "What's wrong with you?"
We ask, "What happened to you to bring you here?"
Individuals, couples, and families all have resiliencies that have supported them despite their struggles.
Presby Psych's clinical team includes individuals from a variety of mental health disciplines, offering us a broad spectrum of theoretical approaches and applied techniques.
Our clinicians also are attracted to our non-profit status and to the outreach work we do in the wider community.
And they are committed to lifelong learning.
Tammie Lesesne and Louis Reed, our senior consultants, enrich the clinical staff with their knowledge and expertise developed over long years of practice.
Our support staff keeps Presby Psych's operations going on a daily basis.
Presby Psych is a non-profit mental health resource.
Our Board of Directors and our staff are committed to making a difference, not a profit.
These efforts depend on the generosity of others who may never cross our threshold.
Please take some time to learn more about our outreach to first responders, healthcare workers, residents in the YWCA Central Carolinas Women in Transition Program, and individuals who may need low-fee psychotherapy.
Since its founding in 1973, Presby Psych has been governed by a volunteer Board of Directors whose members share a commitment to each of the constituencies Presby Psych serves.
Board members support accessible and inclusive counseling and psychotherapy for individuals, children, couples, and families of all races, ethnicities, faiths or no faith, genders, and sexual orientations.
Board members actively support Presby Psych's outreach to the wider community through pro bono and financially assisted therapy and psychoeducation.
Adults seek therapy for a variety of life situations, including unresolved family of origin concerns, current problems with partners or children, painful or unsatisfying relationships, anxiety, depression, feelings of emptiness, eating disorders, early or adult trauma, struggles with alcohol or other substances, and a spectrum of other issues.
Each clinician's approach evolves as they get to know the unique thoughts, feelings, behaviors, yearnings of the person in the room with them.
Through a relationship of mutual trust and respect between client and clinician, the client's life can be opened to "more" - more life, more love, more thought, more reflection, more feeling, more choice, more fun.
