D., P.A. and Associates is a group of mental health professionals who are focused on assisting you or your family in facing life's challenges. We have been in practice in South Florida since 1977 and have helped thousands of patients. We have an excellent reputation and pride ourselves on the fact that most of our referrals come from previous patients and professionals in the community.

We practice Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and believe that by changing one's beliefs, perceptions, and attitudes, a person can change their emotions and behaviors. We provide effective and efficient solutions for psychological disorders, overwhelming problems, and navigating life's challenges. First, the issues and/or behavioral health conditions are identified and goals for treatment are established.

Finally, these strategies are executed and monitored until the issues have been successfully resolved. We invite you to look through our website to find out more about our practice, mental health issues of interest, and how we may be able to help you.
Services
Individual therapy is a one-on-one meeting between a client and a therapist.
At times, it may include others such as family members but the focus is on the client.
The purpose of individual therapy is to assist the client in identifying thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that are self-defeating or overwhelming.
Through didactic discussion and the learning of new skills, the client acquires problem solving skills and enhanced coping skills.
It can be described as a process of becoming conscious of how one functions which leads to enhanced self-growth.
Dr. Joel Kimmel is a Clinical Psychologist who has been in continuous private practice in South Florida for over 44 years.
He received his Bachelors degree from Queens College in 1969 and his doctoral degree from Hofstra University in 1976.
He has provided well over 50,000 hours of assessment, counseling, and consultation, in addition to managing the business of a group mental health practice.
Dr. Kimmel is a regular contributor to the radio show Topical Currents on WLRN, South Florida's NPR affiliate, and he publishes a monthly e-Letter dealing with psychological issues.
Therapy is a collaborative and confidential process between a therapist and a client.
The therapist is a licensed and experienced professional who helps the client to more accurately identify sources of distress and understand themselves in relation to the world around them.
Together, the client's self defeating thoughts, behaviors, and emotions are identified as well as targeted for change.
Relationships, choices, and patterns are thus explored in order to benefit the client.
The goals of therapy are to identify and implement more effective strategies in order to resolve or cope with difficult situations and to achieve the client's goals.
