Our hope is that in visiting this site, you will be able to get a sense of what it would be like to work with one of us at Ascent Counseling and Psychotherapy (ACP), as finding a good fit with a therapist is the most important piece of your healing. At ACP, we tailor to your individual needs, and the needs of your family, always working toward improving your quality of life and working toward the goals that you set as a priority.
As we look around us, we see a lot in our families, communities, and the world that is hurting. It is our belief that change does indeed start with our own hearts. In the words of Chogyam Trungpa, "If you want to solve the world's problems, you have to put your own household, your own individual life in order first." As we heal ourselves, we are more able to see clearly the impact that each of us has on the world.
As we heal, we are also more likely and able to take appropriate actions that will help us to grow healthy families and communities, rather than taking action from reactivity, fear and pain.

Services
Here at Ascent Counseling and Psychotherapy (ACP), the foundation of our treatment is based on attachment theory and neurobiology.
We find it essential to understand how your upbringing and how the upbringing of those who are close to you play into your current level of emotional distress.
We are often programmed to repeat rather than to repair the problems that we have experienced in earlier relationships; we become neurologically wired to react to the signals that we pick up in our environments, whether they are logical or not.

We value diversity at ACP.
We are dedicated to developing our practice as a community of anti-racist, LGBTQI affirming clinicians.
We are well aware that this is a life-long mission and that missteps happen along the way.
We can't promise that we won't make mistakes along the journey, but we can promise that we will own up to our missteps with integrity.
We are actively learning about people from all walks of life, in addition to learning about ourselves, in order to work with unconscious bias and racism.

Just as no two people are exactly alike, neither is their process in therapy.
In each therapeutic relationship we settle into an approach that feels appropriate, remaining open to changes throughout the treatment.
An integral part of my work is to help individuals overcome trauma (relational and physical) along with the limiting beliefs that go along with those experiences.
I understand that you may feel that the word "trauma" may not apply to you.
However, I have found that most people who struggle have had life experiences that they consider insignificant; Those same experiences end up being key in moving forward with their healing.
