At this time, Dr. Hensley is offering teletherapy ONLY, via secure videoconference or phone. Like so many of us, you may be struggling right now, and feeling alone with your pain. You may need information, emotional support, insight into past events and how they're affecting the present, assistance in developing communication and/or coping skills, help with managing symptoms, and/or just a safe, affirming place to gain clarity and a sense of direction with a knowledgeable and caring therapist.
I provide psychotherapy to adult clients, both on an individual basis and within the context of significant relationships. I am committed to creating a welcoming and safe environment regardless of gender, sexual orientation, relationship style, or religious background.

Services
I am a licensed psychologist.
I have a Ph.
D. in clinical psychology from the University of Alabama, and I completed a clinical internship and post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.
I am a broadly-trained therapist who can provide assistance with a variety of individual and/or relationship concerns.
I am a former Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Psychology at Texas Wesleyan University.
I opened a clinical practice after a career in higher education because I wanted to serve people in a different way than I'd been able to as an instructor.

If you've never seen a therapist, you may wonder what psychotherapy looks like in the session, and to a large extent, that's up to you.
We'll meet for an initial session, where we'll talk about the issues that have brought you to therapy, and come up with an initial treatment plan.
Depending on the nature of the problem, we may do some individual work in conjunction with sessions with significant other(s) or family members, so you can have the emotional support and understanding that you need as you make your way.

Sometimes in working with an individual, we may decide to include other significant people in the sessions as a means of supporting the individual.
At other times, the target of the intervention is the relationship itself, and the patterns of communication, conflict management, intimacy, and so on.
Relationship therapy looks a little different from a more individual approach.
We still focus on your individual experiences and needs, but the emphasis is more on how each of your individual experiences and needs create patterns in your relationship.

Whoever said that relationships were hard work wasn't kidding!
When they're going well, they feel almost effortless.
They're not, of course.
The truth is that even healthy, communicative relationships take far more effort than we realize-a day-in, day-out way of being that keeps our partnerships alive.
Many of us forget that.
We service our cars more regularly and attentively than we service our relationships, and then we wonder why our relationships leave us stranded on the side of the road, so to speak.
