After becoming a therapist in California, I returned home to Seattle to become a therapist in private practice during the summer of 2010. I have worked in a variety of clinical settings, including long term residential treatment for adults and adolescents suffering with substance abuse, addiction and the aftermath of traumatic experiences (at Daytop, which is now called Our Common Ground in California).
I also worked in a private university counseling center Santa Clara University, where I concurrently taught history and systems of psychotherapy, research methods and psychopathology and diagnosis to Counseling Psychology graduate students.
I have also worked in private practice both as a Seattle Psychologist and in Silicon Valley, where I gained experience helping people to overcome a variety of mental health challenges ranging from the traumatic stress of sexual assault to depression, anxiety, and long-standing relationship problems.I hold a BA degree in English and Military Science from the University of Washington, an MA degree in Leadership and Organizational Development from Bastyr University and Leadership Institute of Seattle, and MA and Ph.

I am trained in the Humanistic-Existential and Transpersonal traditions.
Thus, I hold a fundamental assumption about humanity and my work: All people are inherently healthy, innately whole, essentially perfect, and precious, even as they suffer with the often challenging circumstances in their lives, including painful aspects of their own personalities and ways of being, and relationships that may be hurtful or less than satisfying.
As a function of that foundational principle, I avoid the use of pathologizing terminology, or a "disease model, " for conceiving of human experience.

I use HeartMath Biofeedback technology in my practice as an enhancement to standard psychotherapy for both individuals and couples.
It is also a part of my work with Cancer patients.
Research suggests that these biofeedback techniques can result in marked increases in subjective wellbeing, the ability to improve relationships, and important physiological and bio-chemical changes in the body associated with lowering the risk of the dangerous consequences of chronic stress, including lowered immune function and heart disease.

I am pleased to collaborate with my colleague, friend and office mate Anna Hedly Goeke, MA, LMFT.
We have known one another since 2001 and been co-located in the same suite since 2012.
In my opinion, she offers the best couple's therapy in the Seattle market.
Certified as a Gottman therapist and extensively trained in Sue Johnson's groundbreaking emotion-focused work with couples, Anna is perfectly suited to be my first and only choice for referrals for couples and families.

I will gladly help you figure out what this looks like at or before your first appointment with me.
Answer: I accept all major credit and debit cards, as well as personal checks and cash at the time of your visit.
Question: Why aren't you In-Network for any of the insurance carriers?
