We all have within us the capacity to heal our hurts and troubles. We can feel substantially better about ourselves, our relationships, and the world. Even if we have experienced trauma, it is possible to move past those experiences and find a much greater sense of safety, calm, and peace. But even though we have that capacity within us, it can be hard to find or hold on to.
Sometimes, even when we understand why we have painful feelings, we are still in pain; or even when we know how to be more healthy in our life, we still make unhealthy choices. This is the human condition. We all have this experience in one way or another. Therapy helps us find and develop those inner resources that enable us to heal. It unlocks our innate capacity to process hurtful memories, feelings, and behavior patterns so that they no longer afflict us.
I offer a kind of therapy specifically designed to process painful material known as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) as well as an EMDR-informed approach to regular talk therapy.

Services
I offer two types of individual therapy.
Though they are not mutually exclusive--you could move back and forth between them--I generally suggest that we start with one.
In the first few sessions we will explore your circumstances and I will develop a recommendation about which type of therapy might best fit your needs.
It may be useful to know some general differences between the two approaches.
EMDR is a more directive type of therapy: there are very specific steps and stages that are guided by the therapist.

If you are in a committed romantic relationship and sometimes feel painfully disconnected from your partner, you would likely benefit from couple therapy.
Increasingly, research is showing that people in secure and loving relationships are happier and healthier than people in relationships where they too often feel frustrated and lonely.
Couple therapy is the most direct route to restoring loving connection, security, and trust in your relationship.
I practice a form of couple therapy deeply informed by Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFT), which is based on considerable research on attachment theory and validated by a raft of outcome studies.

I offer supervision for licensed mental health counselor associates (LMHCAs) in private practice as a Washington State Approved Supervisor.
If you are accumulating hours in private practice that you would like to apply for full licensure, you will need to have a dedicated supervisor for those hours with whom you meet regularly.
If you are interested in supervision with me, please contact me by email or phone (253) 304-1411.
