Dr. Steinmuller's extensive clinical experience may provide you with one-stop service for your mental health care. If medication is indicated and needed for your treatment the fee is the same you would pay for psychotherapy visits alone. Non-physician psychotherapists (psychologists, social workers, counselors) would need to refer you to another doctor resulting in a split treatment.

This can result in more trips for treatment, poorly coordinated treatment and higher overall expenses. Wouldn't it be great if your psychiatrist and psychotherapist could be in the same room at the same time so you wouldn't have to tell your story twice or worry if your psychiatrist has taken enough time to understand you? And even if they were in the same room, you would have to pay them both for being there.

Having your psychiatrist as your psychotherapist can be the best of both worlds. Most psychiatrists limit their practices to medication evaluations and management. Psychotherapy is a powerful tool in helping people ease their pain, facilitate personal growth, and find more satisfaction in their lives.
Services
I work individually with Young Adults and Adults up to age 65.
I am Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology to provide psychotherapy and medication for a wide variety of emotional, behavioral, and psychological difficulties.
Problems such as Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Social Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, PTSD, and Relationship and Work Stress are all common reasons for seeking help from a psychiatrist.
I understand that it is not always easy to seek help for these types of problems and by the time someone calls for help they have often been in pain and suffering alone for some period of time.
Psychotherapy alone may be the preferred treatment for many people with depression, anxiety, relationship problems, and adjustment difficulties (loss, medical illness, divorce, trauma, etc).
For people who require medication to reduce symptoms the addition of psychotherapy is often associated with greater improvement and reduced likelihood of relapse of the illness.
Individual and family therapy may also assist people with psychotic illness by providing support and guidance as well as reducing stress and conflict that may cause a worsening of symptoms.
Psychiatrists are the only mental health practitioners qualified to provide psychotherapy and medication treatment.
While most psychiatrists in Charlotte, NC limit their practice to psychopharmacology (treatment with medication), and this may have colored your view of psychiatrists, it may well be worth your while to consult with a psychiatrist who is adept at providing psychotherapy as well as medication management.
Even if you are not looking to be on medication there are good reasons to consider seeing a psychiatrist for psychotherapy.
Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) is the diagnostic term used to describe the condition for children who refuse to follow directions, talk back to adults, have temper tantrums, blame others for their problems, and frequently lose their temper.
Your child may have this disorder if these problems occurs at home and at school.
It is frequently seen in children with ADHD.
This type of behavior is most likely to continue when it is successful at getting the child his way, even when it works only once in a while.
Learning Disabilities are a common reason for children to be unhappy at school and to resist doing some or all of their school work.
Learning Disabilities can occur by themselves or may further complicate other problems such as ADHD, depression, or anxiety.
A learning disability exists when a person has an unexpected problem learning certain types of information when it appears overall that they are intelligent enough to learn it.
For example a child may be average in his ability to learn to read and write but have difficulty learning to add and subtract.
