Providing Treatment for 35 Years: I have had the privilege of providing continuous service to the community for over 35 years in clinics and private practice in the East Bay, including a multi-racial clinic. I have also chaired a drug abuse prevention non-profit and provided educational workshops and consultation to colleagues at universities, professional associations and privately.

I did graduate studies at Berkeley and have been a Walnut Creek psychologist for over 30 years. Philosophy: Relationships have the power to heal the mind and heart. Creating a safe therapeutic environment is basic to facilitating growth. I blend respect, compassion and understanding with knowledge of scientific advances that support emotional healing.

The therapy relationship is highly individual and tailored to your personality and needs. Research-based treatment: Mental health treatment has been given a tremendous boost in recent years from brain and developmental research. We understand more about ourselves: how the mind, brain and emotions develop and work in the context of our highly socially evolved lives.

Nature enchants me, and I have joyful childhood memories of hours spent watching butterflies feast on garden blooms.
My other childhood passion was storytelling, making up tales to entertain my companions.
I now have an enduring love for the arts of all kinds.
I have studied and enjoyed ballet and ballroom dancing as well as other dance forms.
I sometimes write plays and poetry and have sketched a bit.
I am also a student of world religions and have a profound respect for all faiths and an interest in continuing to learn from those whom I come into contact with in all areas of my life about the place of spirituality in human existence.
We begin with an initial phone contact where we identify what type of assistance you are looking for, answer your questions and begin to get a sense of how well we are able to connect with each other.
The next step is to set up an initial appointment to move forward in identifying your specific concerns, how we might address them, and to get a better sense of our rapport.
Generally, you will have a sense if you wish to continue at this point, but certainly the first few sessions may be considered preliminary stages where no commitments need to be made.
Research has revealed that inflammation is at the base of a growing number of diseases.
Most people who suffer from depression have inflammation markers.
While it was once thought that depression causes inflammation, new thinking posits just the opposite.
In fact, the pharmaceutical industry is banking on it, since a whole new generation of anti-depressants are primarily anti-inflammatories.
Comfort foods may give temporary relief, as many addictions do, but in the end exacerbate our stress and lead us down the depression rabbit hole.
