I specialize in body-centered psychotherapy, EMDR eye movement therapy primarily for trauma. Today's youth and early career professionals experience a lot of daily stress. From academics, work, and social demands, we face constant challenges that can pile up and affect our physical and mental well-being. Sometimes, the impact of stress becomes a little too much to handle and turns into a mental health concern.

Hello, I am Joseph Gillan, and I have been working as a psychotherapist in the Denver/Boulder area for over 15 years. It is truly my joy and my passion to help someone find peace with their bodies and psyches, to feel more competent and confident in engaging their day to day existence. While I work with a wide range of issues in clients from adolescence to the elderly, I have come to specialize in working with people who are struggling with chronic illness, cancer and pain issues.

Much of my work is informed by a method known as Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, a body-centered therapy endorsed by many of the most prominent researchers and practitioners in the field today I am also one of the primary trainers of this method, and I have traveled the world teaching this work to other therapists.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy treatment that was originally designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories (Shapiro, 1989a, 1989b).
Shapiro's (2001) Adaptive Information Processing model posits that EMDR therapy facilitates the accessing and processing of traumatic memories and other adverse life experience to bring these to an adaptive resolution.
After successful treatment with EMDR therapy, affective distress is relieved, negative beliefs are reformulated, and physiological arousal is reduced.
If you are someone who is facing, or has faced a chronic illness such as cancer, or depression you want to feel that you can manage the challenges illness brings.
You may want to figure out what you need to change in order to heal, or who to reach out to for support.
You may want to find simple ways to feel better.
Most of all you want to move on and get back to the life you want for yourself.
