My name is Andrew Joy, founder of The Mental Difference.
I believe that it's important for you to know about me so you can see if I'm the right fit for your journey.
My story leading to the start of The Mental Difference is anything but ordinary.
As a youth hockey player in the Chicagoland area, I was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 15 and ended up beating it.
However, the real battle started after the medical treatments ended and I struggled both mentally and emotionally with depression, anxiety, confidence and self-esteem issues.
When Johnny came to TMD he was almost in tears because he felt his hopes of a Division 1 scholarship were gone.
He was on the verge of quitting a sport he loved for all the wrong reasons.
We began our work with a full mental skills assessment, which links the connections between thoughts, emotions, and performance.
What we found was that he was struggling to maintain focus, had swaying confidence, and worst of all, a huge fear of judgment and failure.
Through our conversations and activities, Johnny learned how he was creating negative scenarios in his mind that caused him to become tense and "scared to play."
I remember the first day Katie walked into my office.
The look on Katie's face was a culmination of confusion, fear, exhaustion, shock, and embarrassment.
She had left work yesterday after suffering a severe panic attack in the restroom.
She decided to take the next few days off to gather herself.
Once we sat down, a floodgate of emotions opened.
Katie reported that she had been going through a lot of transitions in her life and was feeling overwhelmed, sad, and alone.
She felt that no one understood what she was feeling.
At TMD we understand the importance of how your thoughts, feelings, and actions Impact your daily life.
We help you become aware and understand these distractions and develop skills and techniques to break barriers that may be limiting your thinking and success.
Through an integrated approach of mind and body, we collaboratively find strategies that help you meet your needs.
These strategies include identifying triggers, Focus/ Refocus Techniques, Mindfulness, as well as a wide range of additional strategies.
