Services
The way we think affects not only the way we feel, but also the way we respond to various people and circumstances.
The goal of psychotherapy (also known as therapy or counseling) is to help you become more aware of your own thoughts and feelings, as well as the feelings of others.
Counseling can have risks and benefits.
Since it often involves discussing difficult aspects of your life, you may experience some unpleasant feelings at first.
However, the benefits of counseling can include improved relationships, better problem solving skills, and significantly reduced feelings of distress.
Psychologists use tests to help determine the emotional, intellectual, and cognitive levels at which individuals are functioning.
The use of psychological tests can benefit patients in several specific ways.
First, it can accurately pinpoint the emotional dynamics that are causing symptoms.
Second, it can highlight areas of relative strength and ability.
Third, it can help determine specific areas of difficulty and gauge problem severity.
Fourth, it creates a baseline that can be used at a later date to measure treatment progress (i.e., by re-testing and comparing performance over time).
Prior to becoming a psychologist, I worked in the legal field for a number of years; as a result, I am familiar with legal verbiage, procedures, and culture.
I also received specialized training in forensic psychology and treated seriously mentally ill patients at Arizona State Hospital's forensic program.
The combination of my psychology degree and legal experience makes me uniquely qualified to apply psychological principles to forensic matters.
I have extensive experience in the assessment of personality, psychiatric functioning, intellectual functioning, and cognitive functioning with resultant diagnoses that include (but are not limited to) psychotic disorders, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, cognitive disorders, substance-use disorders, personality disorders, psychopathy, and malingering.
I am on the panels of many health insurance companies, including (but not limited to): Blue Cross Blue Shield, Tricare, Arizona Care Network, AZ Foundation for Medical Care, Holman Frazier, Aetna, and Medicare.
As a courtesy, my office will remind you of your scheduled appointments via telephone and/or voicemail.
Please notify my office at least 24 hours in advance if you must cancel or change your appointment time.
