Stress is different for each of us. What is stressful for one person may or may not be stressful for another; each of us responds to stress in an entirely different way. When people ask this question, they usually want to know about treatment. As a therapy, psychoanalytic treatment is based on the observation that individuals are often unaware of many of the factors that determine their emotions and behavior.

These unconscious factors may create unhappiness, sometimes in the form of recognizable symptoms and at other times as troubling personality traits, difficulties in work or in love relationships, or disturbances in mood and self esteem. Because these forces are unconscious, the advice of friends and family, the reading of self help books, or even the most determined efforts of will, often.

Life can take a toll on your mind and body. Death, divorce, job loss, chronic illness - these situations can bring both tremendous stress and distress into your life. But even daily stressors - the kind you think you can handle - can eventually overwhelm you, throwing your life out of balance and affecting both your psychological and your physical health.
Services
I am a licensed psychotherapist and psychoanalyst in Orange County, CA, serving the cities of Newport Beach, Costa Mesa, Laguna Beach and Newport Coast.
I work in long and short term therapy with couples and individuals who struggle with depression, anxiety and marital issues.
Most change is not easy and yet I am inspired each day by the courage and motivation of my clients to challenge negative patterns, the trauma of the past, and the problematic issues of daily living.
No matter what the issue is, marital difficulties, past trauma, or grief and loss the most important aspect of therapy is having a comfortable and trusting relationship with your therapist and I strive to provide that for each of my patients.
The goal of psychoanalysis is to help people create change and progress in their lives and to achieve greater joy in their life and work.
The development of self-awareness/insight is a major step in achieving that progress.
People make the best choices they can, given the limitations of their assumptions about themselves and their circumstances.
Most often, limiting assumptions are based on old patterns, beliefs and unresolved feelings from the past.
Psychoanalytic treatment gives patients the opportunity to examine these assumption.
Psychotherapy is successful when you achieve the goals you have set for yourself.
Perhaps you want relief from acute symptoms such as anxiety, anger or depression.
Maybe it's breaking a cycle of unsuccessful relationships or jobs.
I want to help you make the changes you struggle with-to help you start living a more satisfying life.
To make this happen, you set the agenda.
After initial sessions devoted to your background, your reasons for seeking psychotherapy, and your goals for treatment, I want you to speak freely about whatever is on your mind.
Much like psychoanalysis, psychoanalytic supervision is an art.
It can be a transformative relationship and a valuable experience.
For candidates in psychoanalytic training, supervision can be the crucial integrative experience of the candidate's education, bringing together both the didactic analytic curriculum and the personal training analysis.
The supervisory relationship offers the candidate a forum in which to explore his or her evolving understanding of the relationship of clinical work and analytic theory, to learn analytic skills, and to have an important mentoring and modeling opportunity, all of which are aspects of the candidate's developing analytic identity.
