Anxiety can be a normal reaction to stress.
However, anxiety disorders differ from normal anxiety.
Anxiety disorders typically consist of excessive fear and nervousness, often resulting in avoidance and other behavioral disturbances.
Different aspects of life such as performance at work or school and social relationships can be negatively impacted.
Agoraphobia (fear of places where you may panic or feel trapped, helpless, or embarrassed).
Panic Disorder (out of the blue panic attacks characterized by overwhelming physical and psychological distress and fear of having panic attacks).
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a form of evidence-based psychotherapy that combines acceptance and mindfulness strategies with commitment and behavior-change approaches to increase psychological flexibility.
Rather than removing difficult feelings, ACT focuses on being present and accepting what is out of one's personal control and committing to action guided by values.
The emphasis in ACT is to improve and enrich one's life.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based treatment made up of an interrelated set of treatments which assume that our emotional experience is fundamentally related to our cognitions (thoughts) and our behaviors (actions).
