I have maintained a private psychiatric practice in North Seattle since 2006. I graduated from the University of Washington Medical School in 1980, and then spent 20 years as a board certified family practice doctor. In 2002 I changed careers, and began a second residency (specialty training) in psychiatry at the University of Washington. I opened my North Seattle private practice in 2006.

In my spare time, I enjoy walking, swimming, spending time with my family, and reading. I offer consultation and ongoing treatment for adults, ages 21-60, in the following areas:. I am NOT equipped to treat the following problems, some of which require a team approach:. Fitness-for-Duty or Return-to-Work evaluations (unless the person has already been in treatment with me).

If you are seeking help for a condition that is not listed above, please leave me a voicemail with detailed information, and my assistant or I will get back to you. Then we mutually determine whether further treatment is needed, and if so, whether treatment will involve medication, psychotherapy, or both.
Services
Most Blue Cross/Blue Shield plans (but not Boeing, which uses a non-Blue Cross plan for mental health services).
Washington State Labor and Industries (note: depending on my current caseload, I am not always able to accept L & I patients).
My office will submit claims for the above insurances.
It is your responsibility to pay your deductible, co-pays and estimated co-insurance (a percentage you owe, if applicable) at the time of the visit.
If insurance has not paid within 60 days, you are responsible for the entire bill, although I will continue to attempt to collect from the insurance company, and will refund any overpayment that you make.
Before calling for an appointment, please read this website's home page (regarding conditions that I treat, and those that I do not treat) and the insurance and fees page.
What insurance, if any, you will be using (you only need to leave the name of the plan, not the numbers).
The general area where you live and work.
I encourage people who live and work south of the Lake Washington Ship Canal to seek a psychiatrist closer to downtown Seattle, where there are many psychiatrists.
I am near Northgate, and traffic makes getting to appointments difficult.
Dr. Alexander is in the Meridian North Office Building, 10740 Meridian Avenue N., Suite 101.
The second building on the left is the Meridian North building.
Because of traffic safety issues, it is best to pass the Meridian North Building, and turn left into the large parking lot just south of the Meridian North Building.
Then circle the Meridian North Building, and park in the Meridian North parking lot.
Alternate route: Dr. Alexander is several blocks North of North Seattle Community College.
There are ways to get to North Seattle Community College that avoid the Northgate traffic.
Established patients and health professionals: if your call cannot wait until the next business day, please call the office number and follow the voicemail directions to reach my cell phone.
Be sure to schedule an appointment before your prescription runs out of refills.
If I have to refill your prescription outside a scheduled appointment (e.g. over the phone) you may be charged for "prescription without appointment."
The following resources may be helpful if you are in crisis, and either do not have a psychiatric provider, or for Dr. Alexander's patients, if you are not able to reach me.
