Hi, I'm Lauren and I'm glad that you have found StarHaus Psychotherapy. We are a Minneapolis based psychotherapy practice specializing in anxiety related to self worth and identity concerns. One of the most important things to know about StarHaus and the way we practice therapy, is that we firmly believe that you are the expert on your own life. YOU already have the answers, so our role in our therapeutic relationship will be to help you locate and utilize the wisdom already within you.
It would be our honor to partner with you on your journey; to assist you in locating your own internal guiding star. At StarHaus, our therapeutic style is influenced by psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, and mindfulness based approaches to healing. This work happens through an examination of your childhood experiences, exploring the subconscious through dreams and symbols, and learning and practicing concrete tools to help you start feeling better today.
A key component to therapy practice at StarHaus is in developing a collaborative, compassionate, authentic, and comfortable therapeutic relationship with clients.

Throughout the last few weeks, in parts one through three of our Haunted Haus zine, we have framed the liminality of this season as an opportunity to move through time and dimensions.
We've explored nostalgia, inner child work, and the ghosts of painful emotions.
We've pulled back the veil within our own consciousness to engage in shadow work.
Now, with Halloween just a few days away, we'll explore other therapeutic uses of this liminal time.
Burying things when they are ready is like planting a seed, creating a powerful and rooted network of integrated support for yourself.

Anxiety is natural, common, and treatable.
You are absolutely not alone.
In fact, the American Psychological Association estimates that about 18% of adults in the United States meet criteria for an anxiety disorder.
An important thing to recognize about your experience of anxiety, is that it is inherited from your earliest ancestors.
Back before humans were at the top of the food chain, anxiety was a key survival tool; we exist today because our ancestors were naturally nervous.
Anxiety can be beneficial to us in some cases; it may keep us safe by reminding us to be aware of potential dangers.

Life changes, even positive ones, can be difficult to get used to.
Whether you've recently graduated, married, divorced, got a new job, welcomed a new baby into the family, experienced the death of a loved one, or moved to a new city, it makes sense to notice yourself struggling with the new routines and attitudes that come along with this change.
Together, we can work to understand and acknowledge your feelings about this adjustment in a non-judgmental way.
Through mindfulness based practices, you will develop the ability to notice your emotions with curiosity and empathy, instead of criticism.

Most StarHaus clients are seekers.
If you are a seeker, you are likely deeply curious about who you are, your place in the universe, and you are looking for a sense of purpose.
It can feel very disturbing to be uncertain about your identity, or your self worth, and many of our clients would identify themselves as perfectionists as a result; not being connected to an inherent sense of self worth, you may have experienced a desire to "earn" your worth by being perfect.
When you inevitably "fail" to be perfect, (because perfection is impossible) you may feel intense shame.
