Psychological treatment is both art and science. Each client I work with deserves to be understood in the context of their own life and experiences. There is no "boiler plate" treatment plan at Friendly Psychology. The goal is to engage together as partners in your therapy. Whether you are seeking brief intervention, life coaching, or more significant treatment for issues such as anxiety, depression, complex PTSD, or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, we will discuss options and determine best fit for you.
One important underlying principle that echos through out our work is that the past cannot be changed. Healing often begins with acceptance, understanding, and resolution of challenges in your life that may be the byproduct of your thoughts and feelings that were influenced by those difficult events.
I approach each individual as having a unique set of experiences and beliefs that interact with their environment and physical selves in expressing helpful or unhelpful ways of perceiving themselves, their relations, the world they live in.

The human body has a fight, flight, or freeze system that activates when it senses danger.
This system speeds up your heart rate so you can run, causes you to sweat so you can stay cool, dilates the blood vessels to improve strength, and so on.
The freeze part of the system causes a type of "paralysis" and is another way the body/mind may choose to minimize damage to itself.
Fight, flight, or freeze is a critical innate response for staying safe from danger.
But for some, the fight, flight, or freeze system is triggered even when no real danger is present.

It's normal to feel a little uncomfortable in social situations.
Socializing is challenging, and even those that seem highly confident in social situations often suffer from at least a small amount of anxiousness.
For some people, however, social situations invoke a sense of severe dread or anxiety.
The mere thought of going to a social event can spark considerable stress.
If you find that you're someone that has a very difficult time managing your anxiety in social situations, you may have social phobia, also known as social anxiety disorder: a highly treatable anxiety condition that triggers fear and stress when faced with social interaction.
