For more than 25 years, I have been helping adults, teens, and couples - both married and unmarried - with a wide range of challenges and concerns. I received my doctorate in 1992. I have been licensed as a psychologist since 1993. My undergraduate degree is from Harvard University. My APA Internship was completed at UMass Medical Center, and my Psy.
D. is from the Clinical Psychology doctoral program at William James College in Boston, Massachusetts. I have been listed in the National Register of Health Service Psychologists since 1993. My first job out of graduate school was. Getting started in counseling: Most patients arrive in my office and hit the ground running. They are struggling with an issue, a relationship, or a historical event or events, and they know exactly what they want to talk about.
Other patients, though, may be a little more hesitant, not certain where to begin, or even unsure who (myself or the patient) should lead the way. Of course, my primary goal at the outset is to make sure you are comfortable.

2. Calculate an extra 15 minutes to locate the building at 111 2nd Avenue N, to park, and to ride the elevator.
There is a parking lot adjacent to the building but also plenty of free 2-hour parking around my block.
Enter the building and ride any one of the elevators to the 5th floor.
As you exit the elevator, look left and right to see a small seating area.
You may arrive late, but our sessions will end on time, a courtesy for the person/people with the next appointment.
If you don't see me by 7 minutes after the hour, or if you arrive late, please knock gently on my door - Suite 514.

Broadly speaking, I treat individuals, couples, and families.
Usually, patients arrive with an idea of what they are looking for, but it is not unusual for treatment modalities to morph and evolve.
For example, after a number of sessions, a wife might decide to bring in her husband to transition to a couple's modality.
Sometimes, an adolescent will want a parent present to work on an issue for a few sessions.
After couple's work is complete, one member of the couple might stay on for individual work, with the other member's permission, perhaps on a older issue from before the marriage, or perhaps on a work-related problem.

I am a relatively active therapist.
That means that I don't like the feeling of just sitting and staring at you any more than you like to talk to someone who is unresponsive, evasive or cryptic.
Rather, in addition to reflecting back what I am hearing from you, I also will be happy to share my point of view, or to outline a variety of perspectives I think you might consider on a given topic.
I am never going to tell you what to think yourself, of course, and I will enjoy very much your making a point to disagree with me when you believe I am wrong, or when you see the issue from a different angle.

My office is in Plaza Tower -- Suite 514 on the 5th floor of 111 2nd Ave N in downtown St. Petersburg, Florida.
The building is a high rise, about 10 stories.
The blue dot with the image of a car -- that's where my office is.
The parking garage is actually next door, just above the little car.
Scroll down to see some photos.
See the alley entrance?
It leads under my building to the Muvico Sundial movie theaters.
Just walk right up that alley.
The alley is called Plaza PL NE as you can see from the middle picture.
