If you're on my website it's likely you're looking for an individual or couples therapist. Choosing a therapist that you feel comfortable with can be challenging. It's my hope that these pages will provide some information about who I am, my clinical practice and the perspectives that inform my practice.
I am licensed in Massachusetts as an Independent Clinical Social Worker and a board certified sex therapist and supervisor of sex therapy through the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists.I am also a clinical member of The Society for Sex Therapy And Research. Clinically, I am a fearless, empathic, and engaged psychotherapist committed to working deeply with the individuals, couples, and families I see in my practice.
I hold a respectful and curious approach to difference while searching for similarities and shared experience that allow me to connect with my clients. In addition to my practice as a psychotherapist I am also a core faculty member of The South Shore Sexual Health Sex Therapy training program in Quincy.

Supervision for sex therapy certification: Certification as a sex therapist through AASECT requires an intense course of study requiring a minimum of 160 hours of training in basic human sexuality, sexuality throughout the lifespan, sexual dysfunction, mental health, substance use and abuse, relationship dynamics, and gender identity and expression.
In addition to course work, a certification candidate must also complete a minimum of 50 hours of sex therapy specific supervision, to occur over a period of no less than 18 months and have accrued a minimum of 300 hours of sex therapy specific clinical experience.

Couples therapy is a form of counseling that focuses on improving honesty, trust and the relationship between partners.
When working with couples I focus on relationship dynamics, the impact that the family of origin and past relationships may contribute to the presenting concern, patterns of communication and how the relationship manages conflict and intimacy.
This process involves tracking how partners relate, respond and one another.
Creating new patterns of working together and empathically managing conflict, without losing oneself or ones voice, is a major focus of the style of couples therapy that informs my work with relationships.

People interested in improving their relationship to sexuality are often left scratching their heads trying to understand what sex therapy is and what a sex therapist does.
This lack of understanding is compounded by our cultures uneasy relationship with sexuality and pleasure.
Sex therapists are trained psychotherapists.
We are social workers, psychologists, marriage and family therapists, licensed professional counselors and nurse practitioners.
This means that most sex therapists also work with individuals, families and couples dealing with issues such as depression, anxiety, past traumatic events, substance abuse issues and general life transitions.
