A unique adventure in self-discovery awaits you at our beautiful spaces in both Minneapolis and St Paul. In Minneapolis, our practice center is situated on the water and in the woods between Lake of the Isles and Cedar Lake. In St. Paul, we practice in the peaceful Twin Cities Friends Meeting room with a high ceiling and spacious hardwood floor. Our master teacher, Robert Larsen, originally studied the Yang-style form with Master Cheng Man Ching in New York City.

In his 40 years of teaching T'ai-Chi, Robert as woven his experience with spiritual teachers around the world and as a psychotherapist in private practice into an approach that enriches the learning experience. His study of other martial arts, including 15 years of Aikido, assures the martial aspects of the teaching are effective.

To appreciate the Birthing Way, we must differentiate between two basic approaches to learning movement: First there is movement done from the "outside, " memorized by rote, constructed.
The body is told what to do and made it do it through the application of will and tension from the mind.
This is the usual way most movement is taught, with the student mimicking the teacher and programming a set of forms, like learning the steps to a dance or doing a callisthenic workout.
This is also the way T'ai-Chi is often taught.
Beginning classes at the "Birthing Life" T'ai-Chi Center start in September, January and April and remain open for new students for five weeks.
After the initial three-month period the class continues at the same time and place.
Students are then invited to attend all other T'ai-Chi classes on the schedule.
Private tutorial sessions are available at no extra charge for students who are not able to attend class for over two weeks.
Take in both or either of these classes to try our approach to T'ai-Chi.
Master Robert Larsen is a psychotherapist in private practice.
He originally studied with Master Cheng Man Ching in New York City and has practiced the art of T'ai-Chi for over 40 years.
Robert has experience in several martial arts, including 12 years of Aikido, and has taught Yoga, Zen meditation and Kundalini.
In his study of archetypal psychology and dream work, Robert has worked and studied closely with James Hillman, Arnold and Amy Mindell, and Robert Bosnak.
He also studied with the Minnesota Jung Association and Pacifica Graduate Institute.
In the Tao of life all things are in relationship, all things interrelated.
These interdependent relationships define who we are.
They are what give shape and form to our lives.
These relationships are not only with people, they are also with places, things, activities, animals, dreams, or experiences, and potentially, with the essences behind these manifest forms.
These essences are the "gods" or "archetypes" of our existence.
To achieve a life in harmony, it is important to ask not only, "What do I want?"
