Our focus is to assist the patient during their hospital stay. We provide psychological services on an inpatient basis in medical hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, and long-term care units in the San Antonio Texas area. Our orientation comes from the fields of clinical health psychology, behavioural medicine and rehabilitation psychology. The patients we serve find themselves in a medical facility going through treatment for an injury or serious medical condition.
This can be stressful and emotionally challenging and patients can face an entirely new set of environments and choices which can be upsetting and confusing. We work as a liaison or intermediary between the patient and the treating professionals to assist in the successful participation and choices which will be health-promoting. We collaborate with other disciplines involved in the patient's care to help provide a comprehensive approach to their healing process.
Studies have shown that when psychology is utilized in a medical setting, length of stays are shorter and patients are more likely to make lifestyle changes which would enhance their future health.

Patricia F. Gilbert, PhD, the founder of Health Psychology Consultants, has been evaluating and treating individuals in medical hospitals since 1996.
Dr. Gilbert completed her undergraduate work in Chemistry from Southwestern University, Georgetown, TX.
She received her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Houston and completed her internship at the VA Portland Healthcare System.
