Services
After working for ten years in Mental Health, I returned to my Alma Mater to obtain my Master of Science in Social Work (MSSW) degree at the University of Texas at Austin in 2000.
I was trained at the University of Texas Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC) alongside psychologists pursing their final internship before completing their PhD or PsyD.
After graduation, I was hired by the CMHC and became a Senior Staff Psychotherapist.
Therapy services I provided at the UT CMHC involved assessing, diagnosing, and treating a diverse student population ranging from 17 to 60 years old, and I also led several groups at the CMCH including the "Don't Worry Group" for people with Generalized Anxiety Disorder, the Gay and Bi-Sexual Men's Support Group, and several general therapy groups.

You can expect that I will demonstrate a full and accepting understanding of your difficulties, and I will listen keenly and show complete respect.
I will check regularly on how you feel about the therapy process and our working relationship.
The quality of our working relationship is fundamental.
We expect problems to arise at times, and we take care of them right away.
There is almost always some humor and laughing, but not at the expense of entering tough territory or high intensity as much as we need to.

Group therapy can be extremely powerful for many issues, and for some issues - such as questions about how one relates to others - it is the ideal mode of treatment.
It can provide a safe place for group members to challenge themselves to relate to others differently, to experiment with different ideas, to seek support, and to find normalization for many of life's issues.
This is an ongoing psychotherapy group for gay-identified men focusing on improving communication, increasing emotional intelligence and gaining insight about relational patterns.

There are no hard and fast rules about this.
Sometimes only one person in the couple is interested in talking to a counselor about marriage/couples' problems, and sometimes one is enough, even if that one person thinks the other person is the problem.
There have been studies that have shown the risks of one person coming to marriage/couples counseling: the big risk is that the sessions turn into gripe sessions, with the offending person conveniently absent.
You should know that I am trained to notice this when it starts to happen, and have a lot of experience steering clients back to the real issues they're facing.

Issues with sex - physical intimacy, differences in libido, and feeling comfortable with one's body.
I welcome transgendered / genderqueer clients as well, and have worked with quite a few trans clients over the years who are interested in beginning hormone therapy, who want to live somewhere on the gender continuum, or who want to fully transition.
I've worked with many, many clients who have struggled with this issue, and I encourage you to take your time if you aren't sure how you want to describe or identify yourself.
