I have worked with local bands of Southern California Indigenous Americans, first in the capacity of an MSW intern, and then, after receiving my Master in Social Work from San Diego State University 1999. I have struggled, off and on, for much of my life, with weight and associated health issues. I have tried nearly every diet known to man, and some, rather unorthodox.
I am familiar with Weight Watchers. New clients may be surprised to find out that therapy can be very different depending on who exactly the client is, i.e., an individual, a couple, or a family. Individual Therapy is, by far, the most common. I understand that starting the therapeutic process can be a daunting prospect and I applaud you for taking this first step.
Finding the perfect fit with a psychotherapist can be challenging but rewarding at the same time. There are certainly many clinicians to chose from, of all ages, stages, walks of life, genders, and specialties, etc. A good rule of thumb is to give yourself a chance to find a good fit, utilizing a "give it three times" concept.

I am a product of the Midwest, having been born and raised in Kansas.
I spent the first 26 years of my life in the same small college town, finally venturing to the West Coast.
I ultimately settled in San Diego, California in the mid-1980s.
Both my parents were transplants from the East Coast, so I spent every summer back in Pennsylvania, with extended family, and grew to appreciate the history of those early Americans, as both my father and mother could trace their genealogy back to the Revolutionary War, and even earlier.

Additionally, I, myself, have Indigenous American heritage.
As an Indian baby born before 1978, when the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) came into being, I have an intimate knowledge and a highly personal understanding of the impact of being Indigenous American, but raised white within a white culture.

I have tried nearly every diet known to man, and some, rather unorthodox.
I am familiar with Weight Watchers, Nutrisystem, Jenny Craig, Opti-Fast, and, finally, weight loss surgery, most specifically, gastric bypass surgery.
I understand the impact that extra weight can have on one's life, socially, economically, behaviorally, medically, and even in professional ways.
I also understand what it is to be diagnosed with multiple health issues, i.e., as the doctors call it, comorbidity, such as Type II Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, Asthma, bone and joint issues and diseases, COPD, and, I believe my personal understanding of many of these issues makes me an empathetic and kind listener.

New clients may be surprised to find out that therapy can be very different depending on who exactly the client is, i.e., an individual, a couple.
Working with a therapist, individually, is, by far, the most common form of counseling, with a relationship that is developed and nurtured between the therapist and the client.
It is a sacred bond formed between two people, with a journey undertaken, and traveled together.
Trust and communication are paramount to the process, and good fit between the two individuals, both therapist and client, is essential.

Copies of these forms are kept at my office, if you do not have access to a computer or a printer.
Also, please understand that there may be other documentation required on a case-by-case basis.
I accept all major credit cards, checks, Venmo (preferred method in this time of online therapy) and, of course, cash.
My standard fee is $150.00 for 45-50 minutes.
As many mental health providers, I do offer a sliding fee scale, discussed by the therapist and the client in the beginning of the therapeutic process.
