People often come to see me to talk about how they feel empty or lonely. They describe a sense of longing to be more involved and connected with those around them. Others tell me about symptoms of depression and anxiety like worry, irritability and circular thinking. It's as if we live caged within ourselves sometimes. Psychotherapy can address these concerns.
By looking at the barriers that prevent us from communicating directly and freely with others, we discover blocks to our own internal development. Addressing these emotional, psychological and relational barriers in a mutually created therapeutic process can lead to an engaged way of relating with oneself and others. It can help relieve depression, anxiety, self-criticism and loneliness.
More importantly, it can lead to more internal freedom and a sense of interconnectedness.

Services
I began working in the mental health field in 1988 when I started teaching independent living skills at a community mental health center.
After settling into the job, I realized how much I enjoyed working in mental health.
I have worked as a Case Manager, Mental Health Counselor, Mental Health Specialist, Mental Health Therapist, Staff Therapist, Team Lead and Clinical Director.
After 15 years in community mental health, I moved to full-time private practice.
I have been interested in how we divert ourselves away from intense feelings, uncomfortable thoughts and difficult relational interactions.

Group therapy offers the opportunity to tell the emotionally significant story of your life, practice self-regulation & co-regulation skills and explore the challenges of interpersonal involvement.
Group members are asked to put their thoughts, feelings and impulses into words.
While this sounds simple, internal resistances can arise when group members attempt to communicate difficult thoughts and feelings.
By studying these resistances, we are able to articulate the processes interfering with emotional communication.
